Ambient Weather® and Weather Underground® Launch World's Largest Free Personal Weather Station Network
Phoenix, AZ July 20, 2004 -- Ambient Weather® and Weather Underground® unveiled Weather Exchange®, a free PC desktop application that accesses live community weather from the world's largest free personal weather station network. The backbone of the Weather Exchange network consists of over 12,000 personal weather stations registered with the Weather Underground website (http://www.Wunderground.com ), reporting up to the minute "real-time" data throughout the world.
"Our unique network consists of personal weather station owners spanning the globe with nothing more then a personal weather station (starting at $170), weather station software available from Ambient Weather, and an Internet connection," said Ed Edelman, President, Ambient Weather.
"The backyard weather station is becoming a ubiquitous household appliance, with wireless sensors reporting to a console located inside the home. From Basrah to Boston, government agencies, schools, businesses, and consumers can affordably provide live weather with no network or subscription fees. This data is compiled and uploaded to our free desktop program, Weather Exchange, allowing consumers to make important decisions based on live, community weather station data," said Edelman.
The Weather Exchange boasts a rich array of worldwide weather maps and radar, comprehensive historical graphs, up to the minute weather advisories and warnings, weather almanac and astronomy information. User's can even export data to control devices within the home based on the local community weather station.
